Mind map AI: from a brain dump to a map you can actually use

October 14, 2026

Paste whatever is in your head, notes, bullets, a voice memo transcribed, a rant, and ask the AI to turn it into a mind map. In nixm the map draws itself right in the conversation: a centre, the branches it found, the details under each. Say what to change ("group by person", "add a branch for money", "mark the urgent ones") and it redraws. One message, one credit.

How to make a mind map with AI

  1. Dump everything. Open nixm and paste the lot: meeting notes, a list from your phone, the paragraph you wrote at 2 am. Order does not matter. Half sentences are fine.
  2. Ask for the map. "Turn this into a mind map." nixm reads the pile, finds the centre and the natural branches, and draws it live in the conversation.
  3. Fix it by talking. "Put the budget stuff under one branch." "Split people from tasks." "Add a branch for what I am avoiding." Each change redraws the map, for one credit a message.
  4. Open it big. The icon in the corner takes the map fullscreen, which is the easiest way to read a large one.
  5. Use a branch. This is the part a static mind map tool cannot do. Point at a branch and keep going: "make the launch branch a week-by-week plan", "turn the risks into a chart", "write the email the first branch is about". The map was the overview; the signal keeps the decisions you make from it.
  6. Take it with you. Ask for the code of the map and you get a file you can download and open in any browser. A download button for the map itself is on the way.

Why a mind map from AI is different from one you draw

When you draw a mind map yourself, you already know the structure; the map just records it. When you hand a pile of notes to an AI, it has to find the structure, and that is the useful part. It notices that six of your bullets are really one worry, that two branches are the same decision from different angles, that a thing you mentioned three times never got a branch. A good AI mind map is not a prettier version of your list. It is the shape of your list that you could not see from inside it.

How to write a brain dump that maps well

  • Do not pre-sort it. Sorting is the AI's job. A tidy list gives it less to find.
  • Name the centre, if you know it. "This is all about whether we move in spring" saves a wrong guess.
  • Keep the feelings in. "I keep putting this off" is a branch, not noise. The map is more honest with it.
  • Say who, when and how much where you can. Names, dates and numbers become labels.

What to ask for

  • A classic radial map for a messy topic: centre in the middle, branches around it.
  • A tree for anything with order, a project, an argument, a curriculum.
  • A timeline branch when dates matter: "arrange the launch branch left to right by week".
  • Colour for a question: "mark red anything that needs money", "highlight what only I can do".
  • A smaller map: "only the top three branches" is the version you can act on today.

Where the map lives

The map is drawn inside a signal, nixm's version of a conversation. When you are signed in, the newest drawing stays on the signal: the map, until you ask for a chart or another drawing, which takes its place. The decisions you make along the way stay too, in the signal's distilled log. Send the signal link to someone and they see the latest drawing and the work, not your messages, and they can add to it in their own words. Signed out, nothing is saved, so a shared link will not show the map. The signal dissolves seven days after it was made unless you extend it, taking the map and its distilled log with it. Your brain dump is never kept as a transcript: nothing you poured out at 2 am becomes a permanent record.

What it costs

One chat credit per map, and one per change. There is no mind-map plan and no subscription. You can start talking to nixm without an account; a free account, no card, opens in one click when you want to keep going.

frequently asked

Can AI make a mind map from my notes?

Yes. Paste the notes into nixm and ask for a mind map. It finds the centre and the branches and draws the map in the conversation. Say what to change and it redraws.

What should I paste?

Anything. Meeting notes, a to-do pile, bullets from your phone, a transcribed voice memo, a paragraph of worry. Do not sort it first; finding the structure is the point.

Can I change the map after it is drawn?

Yes, by asking. Regroup branches, add one, mark the urgent items, shrink it to the top three. Each change costs one chat credit.

Can I download the mind map?

Ask for the code of the map and you get a file you can download and open in any browser. A download button for the map itself is on the way.

Can I turn a branch into something else?

Yes. Point at a branch and ask for a plan, a chart, an email or a script. The signal keeps the decisions and its newest drawing, so a new chart takes the place of the map. Ask for the code of the map first if you want to keep it.

Is my brain dump kept?

Not as a transcript. What stays in the signal is the newest drawing, when you are signed in, and a distilled log of the session, and the signal dissolves seven days after it was made unless you extend it. Nothing is used for training.
