Can you gift Gemini?

October 1, 2026

Not as a gift card: we could not find a Gemini gift card or gift subscription sold by Google. The practical way to give someone Gemini's paid features is family sharing. If you pay for a Google AI plan, you can share it with up to five people in your Google family group, and Google says each family member gets their own Gemini limits. The catches: they must join your family group, they can only be in one at a time, and you keep paying for it.

Why there is no Gemini gift card

Gemini's paid tiers are sold as Google One plans (Google AI Plus, Pro and Ultra), billed to a Google account as a subscription. Unlike ChatGPT, which has US gift cards, or Claude, which sells gift subscriptions, Google offers no product built for giving Gemini to someone else that we could find.

The way that works: family sharing

Google One plans can be shared with a family group. Per Google's help centre, you can share Google One with up to 5 family members, and AI credits can be shared with the group too. Google's AI plan pages say family members get the plan's AI features with their own limits in the Gemini app, so one person's heavy use does not eat into another's.

The steps:

  1. Create a family group from your Google Account's family settings, if you do not have one.
  2. Invite them with their Google account and wait for them to accept.
  3. Turn on sharing: in Google One settings, switch on Share Google One with family.

The rules to know first

  • One group at a time. A person can be in only one Google family group, and can switch groups only once every 12 months. If your recipient is already in their own family's group, this will not work without them leaving it.
  • Same country. Family group members need to be in the same country as the manager.
  • You stay the payer. It is a shared subscription, not a prepaid gift. If you cancel, they lose access.
  • Some members report needing age verification on their own account before the Pro features appear.
  • Not every perk is shared. Google notes a few benefits stay with the plan manager.

Other routes

Invite trials: Google has at times let paying subscribers send friends a free trial through an invite link. If you subscribe, check your account for an invite option.

Student offers: Google has run free-year offers of its AI plans for students in several countries. If your recipient is a student, that may beat any gift.

Pay for it on their account: possible, but it means a card or billing set up on their Google account and a subscription they have to manage.

If you want a gift they simply open

A family share is generous, but it is not something to wrap. Gifts that work as gifts:

  • a ChatGPT gift card, if they live in the US,
  • a Claude gift subscription, if you subscribe to Claude yourself,
  • a nixm gift: 5 videos and 100 chat credits for CA$24.99, which anyone can buy and which never expires.
